Stroke is a highly dangerous condition that can seriously affect our lives, and it is no longer exclusive to the elderly, affecting many young people as well. If not detected and treated promptly, the consequences can be devastating.

Understanding that certain daily habits can easily precipitate a stroke is the first line of defense. According to Dr. Nguyen Xuan Quang of the Military Medical Academy, everyone should immediately stop these four common morning practices to safeguard their cerebrovascular health.

1. Jumping Up Immediately After Waking

This is a widespread habit, but health experts warn it is the single most likely trigger for a stroke event in the morning.

The Mechanism of Risk: When you are sleeping, the parasympathetic nervous system is dominant. The heart beats slowly and gently, and blood pressure is naturally low. If you abruptly jump out of bed, the sympathetic nervous system is suddenly and strongly activated.

This results in the heart beating much stronger and faster, causing a rapid and acute increase in blood pressure. This sudden spike can cause small, fragile blood vessels in the brain to rupture, leading directly to a hemorrhagic stroke.

The Safe Practice: Dr. Quang recommends that after waking up, you should remain lying down for another 1–2 minutes. Use this time to gently massage your face, head, eyes, and neck to slowly stimulate the body and regulate blood flow before standing up.

2. Drinking Diluted Salt Water Right After Waking
