Identify your body fat distribution type and learn how to manage it
Obesity is a complex problem with diverse causes, and there is no one-size-fits-all solution. Understanding where the body stores fat can help you choose the right weight management strategy.
Main types of fat distribution
Research shows that there are different types of fat accumulation that require personalized treatment. A study of 4,000 obese adults classified them into six main types:
Young, healthy women who are overweight but have minimal health complications (e.g., type 2 diabetes).
People who drink heavily are similar to the first group, but with higher alcohol consumption.
Middle-aged people who suffer from anxiety and depression, most often women in their 50s who also suffer from mental health problems.
Older, affluent, and healthy people: Despite being obese, they are healthy, but they often suffer from high blood pressure and consume more alcohol.
Adults with physical illnesses but good mental health: They suffer from chronic illnesses (e.g., osteoarthritis) but feel good mentally.
People in poor general health, often experiencing financial hardship and suffering from multiple chronic illnesses. Find out where you store fat and we'll tell you how to fix it.
Fat Distribution: Android and Gynoid Type
Android Type (apple-shaped): More common in men, fat accumulates primarily around the abdomen.
Gynoid Type (pear-shaped): More common in women, fat accumulates around the hips and thighs.
